CASE STUDY: ONLINE COFFEE SUBSCRIPTION
Arnold Spinelli, the Godfather of San Francisco’s artisan coffee scene, contacted LightPress after we launched his original website almost a decade ago. He needed to update his e-commerce with automated shipping and monthly subscriptions for his loyal customers. He would pay us for our services, and even throw in some freshly roasted beans.

Arnold Spinelli, founder of LaCoppa Coffee, is passionately dedicated to the pursuit of great coffee. He has a long-standing reputation for being one of the most excellent artisan coffee roasters in the San Francisco Bay area.
LightPress had built his small online shop website on Squarespace 7.0 a long time ago. It still looked nice enough, but Arnold was unable to use some of the best features of Squarespace’s update to version 7.1, and the on-page SEO wasn't in excellent shape. We had also previously created a workaround that allowed LaCoppa to sell monthly coffee subscriptions via Stripe, but that awkward solution had reached the limit of its scalability as the customer list grew.

In this re-launch on the updated Squarespace platform, we needed to help Arnold do away with the mazy process that his old site relied on for coffee subscription sales and replace it with an elegant, modern user experience that delivered seamless ordering and payment. We also knew we would need to create some updates to LaCoppa’s product imagery, brand messaging, and search engine optimization.

By moving LaCoppa’s e-commerce over to the new version of Squarespace and designing new labels, we dramatically reduced the amount of effort required for website users to find and purchase the right blend of coffee on the correct subscription tier.
After improving the core functionality and the look of the products, we worked on brand visuals and copy – writing headlines, selecting photos and graphics, and incorporating bold blocks of the LaCoppa brand colors throughout the website.
Finally, we carefully ported over data from the old website to help with SEO during the transition between the old and new websites. There were a large number of poorly structured, messy URL slugs to sort out on the old site, so we mapped those over to clean new replacements.

The company's new website makes it easy for customers to stay connected to the taste of the old world from the comfort of their homes here in the states.
